Dr. Yvonne C. McDowell earned a degree at the University of Kentucky School of Medicine before completing a residency at the Yale University School of Medicine. In 1983, she moved from New Haven, CT to Los Angeles to continue her training in psychiatry. She earned multiple degrees and certifications at UCLA and completed her psychoanalytic training at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute. She is certified by the American Psychoanalytic Association.
After completing her psychoanalytic training, Dr. McDowell began pursuing education in other fields to adapt to the changing landscape of psychiatry. She earned a master’s degree from the UCLA School of Public Health before studying law at Pepperdine University. She is an active member of the California Bar. Dr. McDowell has worked with various organizations during her career including the Medical Board of California, the UCLA School of Medicine, and the UC Riverside School of Medicine.
In her free time, Dr. McDowell enjoys fitness training, gardening, reading, travel, music, theatre, and film. She has been married to her husband for 26 years.
