Dr. Paul Blaylock


Dr. Blaylock has more than 40 years of experience as an emergency medicine physician and attorney specializing in motor vehicle accidents and worker’s compensation injuries. He received his bachelor of science degree in pre-med from the University of Tennessee at Martin (UT Martin) in 1968 and graduated at the top of his class with his medical degree from the UT Health Science Center in 1972. Afterward Dr. Blaylock trained under the acclaimed cardiac surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey and went to neurosurgery residency in Portland, Oregon. He later graduated at the top of his class from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and has spent the past 40 years serving as both a trauma doctor and a trial lawyer in the Portland area. In addition, Dr. Blaylock is also a co-owner and a medical consultant at the Sunset MedSpa in Beaverton, Oregon.

Before graduating as valedictorian from UT Martin, Dr. Blaylock was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as president of the Student Government Association (SGA). The student government office was officially named after him in 2006. He was a close mentee and friend of Dr. Phil Watkins, then vice-chancellor of student affairs and SGA advisor. Their lifelong bond is honored in the “Friends” bronze statues on the university’s campus. Dr. Blaylock served as the commencement speaker for the university's 2016 graduation and received the UT Martin Outstanding Alumni Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in his chosen professions. In 2017 Dr. Blaylock was recognized as one of its 100 most notable alumni along with National Football League athlete Peyton Manning and astronaut Scott Kelly.

Dr. Blaylock has been honored with both the President’s Award and the Jefferson Award from the American College of Legal Medicine for his disaster work at Ground Zero following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and additional community and charity contributions. Dr. Blaylock is recognized as a notable triage doctor at the scene of the December 28, 1978 United Airline crash on East Burnside credited with saving many lives that night. He is also fluent in both English and Spanish.
